Our Story & Talented Team
LOUISE HURLBUTT
Co-founder of Hurlbutt Designs
Louise Hurlbutt, the co-founder of Hurlbutt Designs, has traveled the world with a discerning eye for design. From mud huts in Afghanistan to New York City, Tokyo, and London and everywhere in between, Louise and her husband, Ralph, have lived, worked and embraced the local culture. This breadth of experience has made Louise a creative, dynamic and innovative designer. Her love of art and antiques coupled with classic design training in London, as well as her extensive travel come together in her beautiful and innovative design work.
Louise became interested in design while working in Tokyo for the internationally renowned fashion designer, Hanae Mori. Then in the mid 70s, Louise studied at the New York School of Design and started her first interior design business in New York. In 1980 she moved her business to London while her husband, Ralph, had a six year stint there with Mellon Bank. While she was in London, she studied at the renowned Inchbald School of Design and expanded her business selling a collection of fine antiques and offering interior design services. When the Hurlbutts returned stateside, Louise sold the business and started what we know now as Hurlbutt Designs. She continued to travel, collecting and shipping containers of beautiful antiques back to her shop in Kennebunkport. While the business model has changed to embrace new technologies, design trends and styles, Louise has built relationships with top furniture makers in North Carolina and around the world, bringing an unparalleled level of design and quality to Maine. Hurlbutt Designs is, more than ever, a unique and exciting shopping destination that accompanies a world-class interior design firm. Louise has worked on residential and commercial projects throughout New England, Pennsylvania, Florida, London and New York. Her interior design work has been featured in many well-known publications, including Better Homes & Garden, Country Living, Hamptons Magazine, Maine Home+Design and Accent Magazine.
RALPH HURLBUTT
Co-founder of Hurlbutt Designs
Ralph co-founded Hurlbutt Designs with his wife, Louise, in 1998 after a career in international banking and financial consulting. Ralph’s career included extended stints in New York, London, Tokyo and Sydney, where he and Louise developed their extensive list of resources and style ideas.
BONNIE WEEMAN
Designer
Bonnie helps clients design the home of their dreams. Since joining Hurlbutt Designs in 2007, Bonnie has completed an impressive number of residential homes and condos. Bonnie enjoys building lasting relationships with her design clients, as evidenced by their repeat requests for her services over the years. Raised in beautiful Cape Porpoise, Maine, Bonnie knows the Kennebunks like a historian. She graduated from Kennebunk High School and attended University of Southern Maine. She lives in Wells with her husband, Mark, where they enjoy a variety of outdoor activities including kayaking, paddle boarding, cross-country skiing and snowshoeing.
CHRISTINA HAWKES
Designer
Since graduating from Babson College in Wellesley, MA, Christina has worked in several housing industries: ranging from mixed-use commercial development, loan origination, and corporate relocation, before entering the design industry. Leveraging her business schooling and real estate experience, she can manage design decisions that support her clients' financial goals. Christina has enjoyed working on a multitude of design projects ranging from commercial interiors and investment properties to luxury residential renovations in Massachusetts, New Hampshire, and Maine. Christina feels that the most rewarding aspect of her work is the relationship that develops between the design team and the client.
As a Maine native, Christina appreciates all the state has to offer. When she is not working, she spends as much time as she can enjoying the outdoors, either skiing at Sugarloaf or boating in Casco Bay with her family. Most recently, she and her partner have become recreational lobstermen.

ERIN HOLMES
Designer
Building on her background of art and design since receiving her BFA with a concentration in Painting, Erin made a recent career change into the interior design world after receiving her MA in Interior Architecture. Her art and web design background has positioned her as an asset to Hurlbutt Designs to take on technical drawings, collaborate with clients and vendors, and form client relationships through the design and renovation process. Living locally in the area, she enjoys spending time with her husband and kids camping and traveling as much as she can when not working on their own renovation projects.

CORY BRYAN
Store Manager
Cory comes from a rich cultural heritage growing up and studying in the U.S. Virgin Islands. His eye for design can easily be traced back to snorkeling and sailing in the rich blue Caribbean Sea. Fine tuning his sense of design and retail management, he spent many years in Boston working at Bonsai Designs at Copley Plaza. Living on the coast of Maine for the past 20 years Cory has been able to bridge his experiences with the vibrant textures and blues of the Caribbean with the urban flair of Boston and integrating them into a beautifully curated shop at Hurlbutt Designs. Also, an avid dog enthusiast, ask him anytime how his rescue Spanish Galgo Mateo is doing.
MARK LEINENBACH

Mark comes from a diverse background in clinical psychology and business. He has had a colorful life living in such cultural areas as the U.S. Virgin Islands, NewYork, Boston, and Atlanta. His educational background includes a BA in psychology and English and graduate work in psychology at Harvard. He started at Hurlbutt Designs in 2004 as a part-time weekend sales associate for the experience of working with fine antiques and to balance his stressful career as a child and family therapist. In 2014 he was promoted to store manager and practiced his therapeutic art only on family and friends. Today Mark is back in school pursuing a forensic clinical psychology doctorate but can be seen on weekends discussing his other love, design and how Louise and he procured the many fine pieces that are on display at Hurlbutt Designs today.
